Biography

William J. Hochkeppel serves as Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Music at the ÎÚÑ»ÊÓÆµ at Lafayette. Previously, he held similar positions at Butler ÎÚÑ»ÊÓÆµ (Indianapolis) and Eastern Washington ÎÚÑ»ÊÓÆµ, and also served on faculty at Northwestern ÎÚÑ»ÊÓÆµ (IL) and Findlay College (OH).

A native of New Jersey, he holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Northwestern ÎÚÑ»ÊÓÆµ, and earned the Doctor of Music Education degree from Indiana ÎÚÑ»ÊÓÆµ. His training included conducting studies with John P. Paynter and Ray E. Cramer, and applied saxophone with Frederick Hemke and Eugene Rousseau.

In 1977, Hochkeppel won first prize in the National Saxophone Competition, and was a semifinalist in the 1978 Concours Internationale in Gap, France. As a Selmer Artist/Clinician, Hochkeppel maintains an active performance schedule in addition to frequent services as adjudicator, soloist, clinician, and guest conductor.
